It's 1:48am over here in Oz & i was just checking the forums and well, guess what! yay, Tjerp is back! This is great news, and I am greatful to have you back with sfx again - and yet it sounds like i didn't do my homework cause Anubis was going to go as well !? eep - Anyhow, thx for returning and it's good to know you're still with us.

(btw, i'm happy that my good-bye post to you is now obsolete but i will leave it there for posterity).

Vahagn - 26/02/2002 - [ yeh this post deserves a seperate news post ].
Somehow i didn't post about Annelids excellent work on the Maps Cart - I am pretty sure he updated it somewhere like a week ago (correct me if i'm wrong!) and now we have these great little symbols like this: next to the newest maps (yup lots of new maps in there too). yay. :)

The honourable co-leader and valued friend Tjerp has handed in his resignation and is leaving sfx. This news came as a shock to me and to see him go because other wormers have been less than respectful is a great shame. He was the kind of wormer that supported me and sfx through some hard times and has always been there to give advice and help out whenever he can - we'll miss him.

Also, another loss to the worms community is that the long serving Worms Center is now dead. WC has been a great resource for alot of wormers and it's sad to see it go at a time when team17 seem to be taking the approach that should have been taken many months ago. I say this in farewell: "Good-bye to WormsCenter. You did what was needed and gave to the community a solid place of help and encouragement to all."

And to the two people that i have always respected - Imaginer & Lord Electro: "You guys were always wise wormers imo. Your work did not go unnoticed :) and was always much appreciated."

Vahagn - 25/02/2002 - [ updates ].
  • Added 3 new wwp missions.
  • Corrected our forums link - they now point the new forums :)
  • Update the members page with CellBlocks info - woops :) - he had to email me twice lol.
  • Annelid added extra smilies/emoticons to the forum! and taz edited a few gfx - thx m8s!

  • Vahagn - 22/02/2002 - [ A bit more to say from me ].
Okay, following on from my previous post a few things i didn't mention (and it's stuff that wormers need to know) ... There's an important Worms Related Thread here - It relates to the future of the Worms series (worms2, w:a and wwp) so if you want to know about how Team17 are (imo) taking the right approach then read the thread! :)

Okay, second on my list of important stuff is this: wormers may be inclined to check out DeadCodes latest patch which fixes some of the abuse of WormNet over the last few months (or whatever it's been). You can it @ silkworm.topcities.com btw.

And lastly, there's also been some probs with our latest attempts @ getting the new sfx forums online (most of you probably already know about the prob) and I won't go into details but suffice to say that we will be sorting out new forums one way or another as soon as possible.

[ Post Script - oops, just checked our temp. forums and it's confirmed the wonderful totomds is helping us out and will be hosting our ubb forum. "what a legend ! " (heh, i haven't used that line for a long time) - thx to him, lots and lots of thx! ].

    Tjerp - 22/02/2002
Just posting this because we would like to welcome our 2 newest members to sfx: MDK and OldSock - "Welcome to clansfx guys!" :)

    Vahagn - 22/02/2002
wow, has there been alot happening! and it's both good and bad - We've had to take a pretty tough approach with the members section and therefore who's in and who's not. I really don't like having to drop good m8s from sfx but it's been decided that it was necessary. :(

Infact, imo it's kinda harsh that we've had to do this but to the friends concerned i really hope you stay around cause your comments and great attitude help to keep our tiny 'sfx' community and the larger 'worms' spirit alive! I guess my words here can't really convey how i feel about this. On the one side i am saying "no!, you guys are great m8s" but then on the other there are the critics who realise that players need to be playing more worms. Hmm, what i propose to do is to put you onto the "Past & Honoured Members" list because you are good sfx m8s. Basically imo you are still part of this clan becuase sfx is a little community of it's own. Myself and the other members always value your input. Just becuase you are not in the members list does not mean that you should feel (in any way) removed from our small community of m8s.

Vahagn - 15/02/2002 - [ note: News written on the 15th but not posted until the 21st - woops ]
2 updates to the Files section. SchemeWorks (by Annelid) Updated to version 1.45 and i've also added a WWP Trainer program (designed by Cyberdyne Systems - refer to the files section for info). Thx for sending it.

    Vahagn - 03/02/2002 - [ aol vs trillian ]
Heyas all. Todays post is a vast change from the usually strict worms/sfx topics that i write. And yet, i'm posting this becuase it's an issue which effects not only wormers but 1000's of others around the world - It's a battle between The small fry (1 million or more users) of Trillian and the might of AOL with it's AIM client.

In brief, Trillian is an Instant Messenger program that combines and connects to the other 'free/add-ware' Instant Messenger programs such as AIM, ICQ, MSN, and Yahoo, plus the added extra of IRC. In this way the end-user doesn't have to load up all the different programs to chat and converse with other users.

But ... it's not all sugar and spice becuase over the last week AOL has decided to repeatedly block trillian from accessing it's Instant Messenger network which they are entitiled to do. This has created a bit of discussion around the internet and in the news so if you'd like you can catch-up on info and opinions from this list of related links:

  • ZDNET - Article (01/02/2002)
  • Trillian vBulletin Thread

  • And why am i posting about this? .. Well, in my view AOL shouldn't be blocking users and their own subscribers who are entitled to use Trillian as a third party program. I believe people should know about this and therefore i wanted to inform other users that visit this site that i support trillian in this - It's basically the underdog and i'm concerned for it's future. I don't want to see it get crushed by the heavy-weights and giants such as AOL - So, i guess the only thing i can think of is use Trillian and boycott AIM perhaps?
